Redmi Note 5 may come with a screen with extremely thin-bezels and the latest rumours suggest that it will be launched in January. Meanwhile, Redmi Y1 and the Redmi Y1 Lite go on sale today.

A lot is happening in the world of Xiaomi today. There are leaks and there is news. There are more leaks surrounding the Redmi Note 5, a phone that is supposed to be launched soon. This will be the successor to the Redmi Note 4 and it is likely to come with a revamped design. Meanwhile, Xiaomi is opening another sale for the Redmi Y1 and the Redmi Y1 Lite in India today. These two are entry-level phones with price under Rs 10,000 and they will be on sale at Amazon India and at Xiaomi Mi Store.
Xiaomi's recently-launched affordable Redmi phones Redmi Y1 and Redmi Y1 Lite are on sale in India today on Amazon and Xiaomi's official website Mi.com. The Redmi Y1 is available in two variants -- one with 3GB RAM and 32GB internal storage at Rs 8,999, while the second variant of the phone comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage at Rs 10,999. On the other hand, the Redmi Y1 Lite - which is the souped up version of the Y1 comes with 2GB RAM and 16GB internal storage and is available at a price tag of Rs. 6,999.
The Redmi Y1 Lite and the Y1, according to Xiaomi, are mainly targeted towards the youth looking for a big screen and 'the best' selfie experience. Both the phones come with the similar build and design and boast more or less the same hardware specifications as well. 
Meanwhile, news from China is coming about the Redmi Note 5.  Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus with 18:9 bezel-less displays in China. The smartphone manufacturer is reportedly gearing up to announce another Redmi smartphone with 18:9 display in its home market -- called the Redmi Note 5. This phone will succeed the company's self-claimed "most popular" phone Redmi Note 4. Ahead of the official announcement of the phone, the smartphone, aka Redmi Note 5 has been subjected to several leaks and rumours which suggests that the device will be an upgraded version of the Redmi Note 4. One such rumour hints that the Redmi Note 5 launch is imminent. It suggests that Xiaomi may make the Redmi Note 5 official in January 2018.
To recall, Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 4 -- at the same time -- i.e, in January last year. Now the newly leaked report suggests that the company may follow the same for the upcoming Redmi Note 5 as well. This means, it may announce the Redmi Note 5 in coming January. Alongside the launch timeline, some specification details of the smartphone have also leaked online, which also hints at a bezel-less display for the Redmi Note 5.
A couple of live images of the Redmi Note 5 have been spotted on the Chinese micro-blogging site -- Weibo. Going by the leaked pictures, the upcoming Redmi Note 5 appears to come with all screen display and dual cameras at the back. Overall, the Redmi Note 5 is a much-improved version of the Redmi Note 4, be it in terms of display, design, camera, or even the hardware. The smartphone is tipped to come with a 5.99-inch display with 18:9 aspect ratio, as opposed to the 5.5-inch display of the Redmi Note 4.
The smartphone is expected to retain the same FHD+ 1080 x 2160 pixel screen resolution as its predecessor. Additionally, the leaked specs details also suggest that the upcoming Redmi Note 5 may be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 processor and will be backed by a 4000mAh non-removable battery. The upcoming Redmi Note 5 is tipped to come in two variants -- one with 3GB RAM with 32GB storage, while the second one will come with 4GB RAM with 64GB storage.
Apart from the display and design improvements, Redmi Note 5 may see major refreshment in its camera department. Coming to the camera department, the Redmi Note 5 may come with two 12-megapixel cameras at the rear side. In comparison, the Redmi Note 4 comes with a 13-megapixel camera at the back. The front camera of the Note 5 may not see any change when compared to its predecessor. Much like the Redmi Note 4, the upcoming Redmi Note 5 may also come with a 5-megapixel selfie shooter on the front.
The device is also expected to support dual-SIM in hybrid SIM and run on Android 7.1.2 Nougat. It is likely that the Redmi Note 5 will launch with latest MIUI 9 atop the Android 7.0 Nougat out-of-the-box.
